There are two components to parenting; production and maintenance. or in Spanish, "el que hace" and "el que crilla." Deserving something means you had to work for it, and the way my sweet sisters are giving it up left and right, I say his job was not so hard. I know it sounds crude, but the reality is that women have forgotten to make men work for it in the first place. My advise for young women is to know your worth. my second advise is that men need to remind women to be a lady, men know how to value women. If we look at children as something we deserve, then they are commodities and not humans. Say they are like inventions, there is the author of the idea ( el que hace) and the company who applies the technology and produces it (el que crilla). No matter what, you have to respect and give props to the author of the idea. So my women, look long and well at who you are dating/ married to/ hooking up with, is he a committed, integral, loyal, economically sound, and stable man, or did he just have on a cute outfit and you liked his sneakers? Maybe you liked how he said "what up do?" No se, but I can imagine that we as women have to set the standards and hold these men to the standards before we have kids with them. Don't get me wrong, I am a feminist, and I believe in social justice. I have seen terrible cases, really bad cases of fathers who are absent and unable to provide for their children. I worked in mental health for three years and I can tell you that there are people who should not have custody of their children, but there are those who need to see their children. Often its their only beautiful moment in their awful life, in most cases, the kids are the only reason they are still alive. I understand that there are parents out there who do not provide for their children and avoid any obligation to them at all; but there is a group of men who cannot function as parents (que crillan), son dignos de lastima, but they have the right to see these children. I was lucky to have a father and a mother in the home. They taught me that I must have love and mercy even for my enemies, to be aware, but to know that everyone has their story, that everyone must overcome personal barriers. Nos falta compromiso, we as a society do not feel we need to invest and commit to anything. We want disposable lives to fit in with unrealistic standards. There are men who cannot keep a job because of mental illness and they establish that they want to be good fathers but they don't have the capacity to fulfill these dreams. There are programs dedicated to helping people start micro enterprises but the money they make off of these ventures cannot exeed a certain amount or they would lose their SSI, and other services that help theme maintain their illness. So the dilema is there, they want to be a great provider, but they have a candy ball machine that only pays out $100 bucks a month. Nobody eats on that a month. These men are a small group, but we must evaluate each case. Some men are just not there, some have no emotional tools or character. Who protects our children, we women prevent harm by studying our partners carefully. Communicating with them our wants, needs and desires. This includes the expectations of family life. A lot of us have not had these conversations with ourselves, we must start asking ourselves what we want for ourselves and for our families before we have kids, before we finish high school, we never think that far ahead. We are just trying to self gratify, quick happiness, but the consequences are long term. Open your eyes mujer, is this what you want for yourself and your home?
