Give A Little (To Get A Little)

As I was serving dinner to a young family the other day, the mother let me know that it was her daughter’s 8th birthday. They came equipped with presents and a cake for her. At the end of the meal, we all sang “Happy Birthday” and she opened her presents. There was another family sitting across from them. That mother wished the little girl a happy birthday and told her that it was her son’s fourth birthday. As the little girl was leaving the restaurant, she walked over to the little boy and handed him one of her birthday gifts. The little girl’s mother also gave the little boy a $5 bill. Their actions touched me deeply and I started to cry as I stood there to witness this wonderful event.
This kind gesture made me sit back and think to myself, “Why can’t we all be kind like this little girl?” Instead of only thinking of herself, she generously thought of the little boy and wanted him to have something for his birthday. I thought, “There are still good people in this world raising good kids.”
While we’re all so wrapped up in our own busy lives, people everywhere are starving and homeless. If we each gave a little of ourselves, we would live much happier lives. It’s not fair that some of us have everything while others have nothing. The next time you see someone sitting on a street corner with a sign and you’re leery about giving them money, buy them a sandwich. If you see someone sitting out in the cold, offer them a coat or blanket. Show someone less fortunate that you care. Chances are they might really appreciate it.

  2. Your heart is so full, and for that you share with others a little of your love, for human kind. Thank you for being one of those loving people in this world, that we live in. I also share a full heart, and will take this article with me throughout my day. Thanks Rhonda.

What a touching story and what a nice reminder by this little girl that the world is still a wonderfull place filled with good people who want to help each other.

Why should we go through life and not try to leave our planet a better place than it was before our time? Everybody needs help in one way or another, and I feel that we as humans tend to chose for other people and go by appearance alone whether they need our help or not, while they are secretly living a life of desperation.

Rhonda, I think the next article should be ‘Give a LOT to Get a LOT’ :)
