Lecture: Working with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo

The Detroit Institute of Arts will be holding a free lecture titled, Working with Diego Rivera: Recollections by Rina Lazo and Arturo Garcia Bustos.  The lecture will take place on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 6:30pm-7:30pm in the Detroit Film Theater.

Rina Lazo studied with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Mexico City in the 1940′s.  After completing her studies she worked as Rivera’s assistant until his death in 1957.  Arturo Garcia Bustos studied under the famous painters also and gravitated towards Frida.  He became known as one of “los fridos,” famous for his devotion to Kahlo.

The couple later married.  They will be talking about their time working with the famous painters, before opening the floor up to questions.
