Let The Positivity Flow

We have all heard about the benefits of a positive attitude.  However, I never realized, until recently, how important positivity really is.  Many of us are stressed each day due to demanding jobs, children and commitments.  I found myself feeling very bad considering that most of my days consisted of non-stop chores, homework, kids and jobs.  I was getting headaches, stomach ulcers, and my hair was actually falling out.  I thought to myself, “What the heck is going on with me?”  After much thinking, I realized that I was totally stressed out.  I knew that something had to change.

Today, my days are much calmer.  I have learned to delegate chores to others.  It may not be done my way but at least it’s done, right?  I have also learned to take time each day to exercise, eat right, meditate and relax.  If something doesn’t get done, it’s okay.  There is always tomorrow.

Still not convinced that positive energy makes a difference?  You’re wrong.  As my husband suffered with cancer, we regularly visited the Karmanos Cancer Institute for radiation treatments.  Although I wanted to break down and cry most days, I remained strong in his presence.  I told him everyday that he was going to be okay and acted as though he was overreacting.  Inside, I was dying but at least he was alive.  He believed me.  He believed that he would be okay. I also believed he would be okay too though I felt overwhelmed by feelings of guilt since I was worried that he was going through this.  Why him?  Why not me?  God only knows.

The positive reinforcement that my husband received kept him strong.  I have read many stories of cancer survivors who changed their destinies with positive attitudes.  They were determined to survive.  When someone gives up, it all ends.  Try to remember to keep the positive energy flowing for yourself and for those around you.  Smiles are contagious and when you feel good, you make everyone around you feel good too.

“Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal power comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.” Norman Vincent Peale
