Looking Back: A Year of Mi Estilo

It is hard for me to say that Mi Estilo is one year old.  It is unbelievable to me because I have been tremendously touched by the comments that I have read, as well as when I have spoken to some of you.  What began as a simple idea cooked up by three friends has grown into something that has touched others.

Throughout the year, we have worked our asses off to produce the type of publication that you all deserve.  In making it bilingual, we are trying to remove language as a barrier.  In making it an online publication, we are trying to remove geography as a limitation.  In utilizing word, image, sound and video to tell stories, we are working to change the definition of what a publication is.  What we have done and still continue to do is to remove barriers.

Do I think that magically everybody will get along and we’ll be able to forget about our differences? Oh God, no.  Any of you that know me, know the answer.  I might be a dreamer.  Above all, I consider myself a realist.  What we are doing is a start toward having the long overdue type of conversations that can progress in a civilized way where, at the end of the day, we can agree to disagree.  The point is that we need to continue these discussions.

So here’s to one year and to many more.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you to our dedicated readers and to our newbies.  I’ll tell you.  This has been one crazy ride.  Hope that you’ll join us to see where we go.
