In case you missed UFC 129 last weekend, you missed out on a great card. Truly, it can be called “The Night of 1,000 Knockouts.” I can honestly say that there wasn’t one fight that I can think of that wasn’t interesting in the least. For a full recap, you can go to sherdog.com.
Of special interest is news on BJPenn.com. According to the site, just about every one of the guys fighting at UFC 129 were suspended for medical suspension. I have to admit that I wondered if some of them were due to steroids. This was not the case. They were all suspended for injuries sustained in their respective bouts. Particularly gruesome was Mark Hominick, who, as one of my friends put it so eloquently that night, ended up looking like Frankenberry. He had a major knot on his head that I was sure would have stopped the fight. However, the ref ended up letting it continue because Hominick was still able to intelligently fight. Talk about grit to be able to continue fighting with such a huge hematoma.
In the audience, there was a sea of MMA well-knowns such as current heavyweight champ, Cain Velasquez, who will be facing the winner of the upcoming Lesnar/Dos Santos fight. This is one that I can’t wait to see, especially if it ends up being a Lesnar/Velasquez rematch. The days can’t count down fast enough.
