It is said that our names define us. They follow us throughout our lives. When someone says Beyonce, everyone knows who she is. Why? Is it because she is famous or because she has a very unusual name? I had never heard of the name before her appearance. What does her name really mean? Does her name suit her? Well, her name is unique as she is. I believe the same thing goes for Mariah, Halle, and Shakira. Each of these women bears an unusually beautiful name that happens to correspond with their physical beauty.
There are several websites and books that give definitions of names. After looking up mine, I was interested to learn that my name is Greek and means “powerful river.†I must say that I believe my name fits me. I am a strong, powerful woman, but I also flow very easily, like a river. A river constantly refreshes itself. I somehow constantly refresh myself with new ideas, thoughts and goals. I believe that my parents picked the right name for me.
I have always preferred unusual names, although I also like ethnic and old-fashioned names as well. Who can resist a name like Olivia or Sofia? A name shines light on the person that someone is. We are recognized for the name that follows us. Whether it be a nickname, a surname or a last name, we are all unique in our individuality.
Through Facebook, I connected with another lady named Rhonda Gutierrez. We connected immediately. She is artistic, fun, spiritual, family-oriented and has lots of friends that love her. We have all of those things in common. Also, I have become a fan of her art and she often reads my articles—leaving inspiring comments and words of support. Although we live thousands of miles away and have never personally met one another, we connect. Is it through the fact that we share a name or that our name somehow defines us?

I like this article. The funny thing is I searched for the origin or meaning of my family’s last name. Looked up last names on both sides of the family. It is empowering. Your last name is like reading a history book. You first name I believe is what god encouraged our parents heart to believe this new gift to be. Here is what my name for the most part means, from my findings:
In Hebrew, the name Gabriel means- Man of God. Gods able-bodied one. Famous bearer: The archangel Gabriel, who appears several times in the Bible.. Other origins for the name Gabriel include – Hebrew, Israeli, Spanish.
This holds true. I am not a very religious person. I readily admit that I am a major sinner, but my belief and relationship with god is true, pure and real. God is my constant. I truly enjoye this article.
Rhonda, I am honored that you featured me in your always so brillliant articles, but even more honored that the universe has connected us not so much because we share the same name but because our spirits have connected and it has just been th icing on the cake to have so much in common. I usually say that everyone who enters our lives is nothing but a mirror to lessons that we get to learn or to a reflection of our current consciousness. What a great feeling to see myself in you and know that I must be a powerful, beautiful, joyful, peaceful, giving woman when this is what I see as I look at you.
Namaste,

Rhonda [that is a beautiful name],
I think a follow-up article on your “other” Rhonda is in order. It would be cool to see her Art now that we have “met” her.
My name, Rogelio, is a tough one for those not familiar with Latin names. But I know my Folks gave it to me with all the love they had for me.
But you oughtta see the “butchering” my name has suffered over the years – Aurelio, Relegio, Refugio and … well, you get it. As a young guy, my friends nicknamed me “Chico” and it has stayed with me over the years, in spite of my Folks’ objections. I went to Redeemer and when we played other baseball teams my friends claimed I was Chico Fernandez’ son, who then played for the Tigers ….. great psyche, til they saw me play ….
Happy Birthday, Mi Estilo !!!!
Paz,
Rogelio
