Women In The Men’s Locker Room?

Okay, so by now we’ve all heard the story about female reporter, Ines Sainz, and her experience in the Jets’ locker room.  Apparently, some of the NFL players made sexual comments, while she was waiting in the locker room to interview quarterback, Mark Sanchez.  Should female reporters be allowed in the men’s locker rooms? My answer is, NO! Men are undressing to shower and then afterward dressing.  This is no place for a female reporter.  The players can be interviewed in areas other than the locker room.  In my opinion, this type of atmosphere is only inviting trouble.

With that being said, female reporters must also be sure to dress respectively and professionally.  Sainz is a very attractive woman.  She is absolutely going to attract attention.  However, it is her responsibility to dress in a respectable manner.  After watching many of her interviews, I noticed that she often wears low cut blouses and very short, revealing skirts. Any professional should not be allowed to dress this way.  Is a judge allowed to show up for court wearing mini skirts and tank tops? I think not.  People would not take her seriously.  It is our responsibility as women to demand respect by representing ourselves with dignity.  What is worn to the dance club should not be worn to the office.

I am all for women moving forward and I consider myself a feminist.  However, I am also a realist.  We can all sit back and say, “It doesn’t matter how I’m dressed.  I don’t deserve to be harassed.”  While this is completely true, it’s not real.  If I wore some daisy dukes and a tube top to work, I would definitely be harassed.  That is probably why my employer requires a strict uniform code.  Real life common sense tells us that men are attracted to women.  When women are dressed sexily, they will receive sexual attention from men.  It’s as simple as this: If you don’t want attention, put your boobs away!

Not only should women reporters be banned from locker rooms but cameras should be banned as well.  Maybe stadiums could begin using meeting rooms for interviews.  Players deserve privacy before and after games.  No cameras.  Proper attire.  No reporters in the locker room.

I tried to look presentable for a show, but not for sexual attraction. It was strictly for show business.” Little Richard
